Monica Adamo first began working with clay while
attending college in the United States. After joining
an introductory pottery class, she was immediately
hooked by the creative potential of clay and continued
to study pottery after returning home to the Toronto
area. She then spent almost 2 years traveling and
teaching English in Japan and Peru, joining pottery
studios in both of these countries to further develop
her work with clay. Monica currently lives in the
Kitchener area and is a member of both the Waterloo and
Hamilton Potters’ Guilds.
Monica works equally on the potter’s wheel and with
various handbuilding techniques. She focuses mainly on
the functional uses of pottery and incorporates texture
and pattern into much of her work. She does this by
using textured cloth and paper, leaves and shells, and
with a large collection of stamps including those she
makes from clay herself. Her work is inspired by the
nature she sees around her and the landscapes she had
the pleasure of exploring in her travels.
Monica works with both stoneware and porcelain clay
bodies. For further information she can be contacted at
creationsbymonica@rogers.com.
