​Online ​Handbuilding Basics Course

Flatten and Join

Six Week Online Course

Thursdays 6:30 to 9:00 pm
May 5th to June 9, 2022


Registration closed on Monday, March 28, 2022

$300 for Non-Members 
$250 for Members


Make functional dishes with clay safely at home. Learn how to hand build with clay slabs using flat patterns, slump molds and hump molds. And, learn to decorate the pottery with coloured slips, including transfers, stencils and sgraffito. Lessons will cover making vases, plates, bowls and mugs.

New this Spring, the course includes a lesson on how to make your own bisque molds, roulettes and potter's mark stamps (including stamps with lettering).

Experience making pottery is not required. This course is for people ages 16 years and up.  Registration is limited to ensure individualized attention.   

Classes will be held on Zoom and will include prerecorded videos of the lessons followed by live instruction and support with the teacher. Lesson videos will be available to watch until June 30th, 2023.
An online discussion board will be available for students to share their projects and ask questions.

Course fee includes:
  • stoneware clay
  • coloured slips in five colours for decorating
  • ​firing and glazing of pottery at the Waterloo Potters' Workshop

​Flatten and Join will be taught by local artist Claire Nicole Waddick.
 
Students will be required to locally:
  • pickup the materials and tool kits
  • drop off pottery that was made at home
  • pickup fired pottery​​ 

Boards, Bisque Molds and Stamps will be Loaned to Students
These must be returned at the end of the course
