10 am to 4 pm

Cost is $75 plus tax (Cancellation fee of $25.00)

Minimum 6 students, Maximum 8 students

Course structure

-10 am to 12pm hand building and Demos

-12- 12:30 lunch: bring own or potluck

-12:30 - 4 pm for surface decoration

Course Statement: “Over the last 5 years I have undergone a journey in order to make my hand-built mugs look like they have the refinement of a thrown mug. While I think I have gotten close, the nature of hand building opens the door to a wonderful world of its own creativity. What I aim to teach in this course is my journey of refinement; how to make your hand-built mugs light but also strong enough to be a serviceable vessel.

How to clean up your edges and play with shape, texture, colour and a playful foot!”

This course has been structured to help our new potters on their mug building journeys but all are welcome.

Emz will teach 3 styles: some including the flat bottom square being a twist on a classic hand-built mug, a flowing rounded bottom (the one she favours), finishing with a lifting foot for a dynamic mug, and using the round bisque bowls.

The afternoon is reserved for surface treatment where students will “choose their own adventure” after seeing a demo of sculpture, texture, slip, and leather underglaze application.
