Christian Borzi is a Canadian figurative sculptor whose work blends classical elegance with the energy of fantasy illustration. Trained at the Toronto School of Art and the Rome Art Residency under renowned sculptor Brian Booth Craig, he furthered his studies with Andrew Sinclair, Amelia Rowcroft, Robert Bodem, and anatomy expert Ray Bustos. Influenced by Bernini and Frank Frazetta, Borzi explores themes of myth, transformation, and the heroic figure through plaster, stoneware, and oil-based clay.

Passionate about sharing his knowledge, Borzi teaches small-scale figurative and animal sculpture at Donn Zever’s Pottery School in Troy, Ontario. His latest works and processes can be found on Instagram @christianborzi_arts.

Sunday 07 September

Introduction to Christian Borzi and his sculpturing process. Using provided clay students will learn the basics of sculpturing using the paper armature core or solid core sculpturing. Each participant will complete one sculpture (animal or whale – Christian will decide). Then workshop participants will be responsible for drying their piece and firing it before the next class.

Sunday 21 September

Christian will discuss the various methods to underglaze / glaze your piece of sculpture; then participants will underglaze the sculpture and prepare it for final firing. MaterialsParticipants will be provided with 4-5 pounds of clay selected by the artist.

Each participant requires the following;

• Sculpture tools

• Apron

• Underglazes of their choice

• A small board or bat for their sculpture
