Wheel II Online e-clay Class

Tuesdays, 6:30 - 9:30pm
February 14 - Apr 7, 2023
Fee: $300
 
This continuing wheel class will build your throwing skills and up your pottery game. Get more confident creating larger pieces, pots with lids and altering thrown forms.  
The course is structured as an online class from the comfort of your own home studio. Included in the cost of the course is the glazing and firing of your pots. Students will need to deliver ‘greenware’ to the Waterloo Potters’ Workshop for firing. You will have a choice of two base glazes and two additional glazes for the rims of your pieces. More information and examples will be provided at the start of class. 
Your instructor is June Macdonald, an enthusiastic and popular teacher who loves sharing the amazing things you can do on the wheel.                              
What will you learn:
● How to throw taller and/or bigger.
● Make pots with lids of different kinds, for a jar, garlic pot, honey pot, even a cookie jar!
● Learn how to alter your thrown pieces with darting to create different shapes and get more sculptural.
● Explore adding texture.  

Tools required:
● Throwing: wire tool, wooden throwing stick or metal trimming tool, metal rib, rubber/silicone ribs, ruler or calipers, bats for throwing larger pieces on the wheel, sponge and bowl, towel and/or apron.
● Altering: rubber rib, slip, scratcher or serrated rib, knife.
● Trimming: metal trimming tool, bamboo stick.
● Scale to measure clay.
● Plastic, wareboards (e.g. wood, recycled counter tops, sheet rock)
● Clay
​● Smartphone or laptop to view and join in the online class. Classes will be conducted over Zoom. Recordings will be made available for review. A tech session will be scheduled ahead of class to help you test your setup.  

Note: This class is part of the e-Clay Learning and Teaching Project (https://www.e-claylearning.ca/), made possible by a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Participants are eligible for a course fee rebate of $100 for taking part and providing feedback on the course.

As a student, you will be part of this exciting pilot program and offering your insights and experience as part of the e-Clay project. Once you complete the course, including a course evaluation, you will eligible for a $100 rebate.
