Adult Pottery Classes
Online Programs
We are offering three Online Programs in response to the conditions created by the COVID pandemic that prevent onsite classes at the Waterloo Potters' Workshop. There are two courses that teach handbuilding techniques that can safely be done at home, plus a virtual studio program for people who have already taken an online course. The firings and glazes are done for the students at the Workshop.
UPDATE: Shortages in the supply chain caused by COVID have delayed the delivery of tools and clay. Therefore, the start date of the Online Courses will be postponed by a week or two.
If you are interested in taking one of the Online Courses, get on the waiting list by filling out the form below and we will inform you if a spot becomes available.

Watch this Space for Updates on Onsite Classes Resuming! We plan to resume our on-site classes this Fall. To be notified when registration opens for classes, subscribe to our mailings and choose the email option and Pottery Classes for Adults.
In normal times, you should register early to ensure your spot! Wheel and Handbuilding Classes are offered during Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Classes are held at the Waterloo Potters’ Workshop at the Eby Farmhouse in Waterloo Park. Each course is 8 nights over 9 weeks: six weeks working with clay, one week off for pots to dry and get their first firing, one week to glaze and an exciting final night to review your work and celebrate with classmates. Classes run from 7 to 10 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Handbuilding ClassThis course covers essential handbuilding techniques for creating both decorative and functional pieces. You learn how to use slabs, molds, coils, pinch pots, handles, decorative effects and more to create bowls, serving dishes, mugs or decorative objects. With handbuilding you have more time to focus on decoration and play with form. Handbuilding and wheel techniques can later be combined for endless possibilities.
Wheel ClassLearn to throw on the wheel. Start with bowls, mugs, and progress to plates or larger objects. Learn techniques for creating and attaching handles. If you’re very ambitious you might want to make a teapot!
Class Sizes are small each class has space for 8 participants in wheel and 10 in handbuilding. We need to fill classes in order to run them, so feel free to bring a friend, family member or fellow enthusiast! Spaces fill quickly, so to avoid disappointment, remember to email or send in a form with payment asap. Please note that the wheel class can be physically demanding. If you have back, wrist or elbow issues you are advised to proceed at your own risk. All Levels of Experience are WelcomeWhile these classes are geared to beginners, students with previous experience are welcome.
Refund PolicyWe can refund fees before the start of a session, less a $20 service fee. Please email adultclasses@waterloopotters.ca for more details.
