Hand Building Class for Ages 7 and Over This class will allow your child to use different techniques and methods to create wonderful works of art. Using a variety of tools and their imagination your budding potter will dazzle you with their creations. A minimum 6 and maximum 10 students per class. Parents (and grandparents!) are able to register for this class, too. Wheel Class for Ages 10 and Over This class will provide your child with an opportunity to work with an electric pottery wheel to create their beautiful pots. Your child’s instructor will guide them through the basics of ‘throwing’ clay. Children must be 10 or older to participate to ensure their hands are big enough to centre and control the clay. Minimum 6 and maximum 8 students per class. Take Home Your Creations! The last day of class the students decorate their pieces with different colour 'underglazes'. The pieces are then left to dry for a week, after which the workshop will fire all the pots in a kiln (a bisque firing) to remove the moisture in them. The pots will then get covered in a clear glaze and fired again at a higher temperature so they shine and the colour is protected. A date for picking up pots will be provided after registration, usually a couple weeks after class is over, or alternate pickup can be arranged. Unclaimed pots are donated to our Celebrate Summer fundraiser for childrens' charities, or disposed of. Teachers Who Love Clay Our instructors are members of the workshop with a passion to share their love for clay with your child. Most are full time potters or have been members of the workshop for many years and have lots of experience teaching children's classes, many seeing the same students grow in skill year after year. |
