Decorative Slip Workshop with Unha Hill
Workshop date: Sunday 7 April 7th 2024, from 10 am until about 4 pm.
Workshop Fee: $77.69 plus HST
Unha Hill is a potter from South Korea who immigrated to Canada in 1991. She has a
Master’s Degree in Floral Arts. After having a flower shop in Hamilton for 10 years she
closed the shop and turned her artistic interest to ceramics. In 2015 she started a
cultural exchange program for ceramic artists to South Korea and China. She currently
teaches at the Creative Insights Studio in Waterdown, Ontario.
She has developed her own style of pottery using various layers of slip, carving as well
as the Mishima technique.
For our workshop, Unha will provide slabs and bowls (2” high and 6” wide) that are pre-slipped with multiple layers of the base slip. Then you will carve through using her
technique and decorate them. If time is available, she will also go through Mishima
techniques on hard leather tiles.
Materials: You will need to bring carving/sgraffito tools, brushes
for slip, a sponge, an apron, a green scrubby, and a sanding block (see picture).
Please bring your own lunch and snacks as we will have a short break.
